Shiplap & Tongue-and-Groove

Shiplap and tongue-and-groove on walls, ceilings, and porch lids. It looks like easy work, but the whole thing rides on keeping every reveal the same and planning the layout so you land a full board where the eye goes instead of a thin sliver in the corner. We blind-nail through the tongue where the profile allows it, so the face stays clean.

What We Handle

The scope, spelled out.

Here’s what falls under shiplap & t&g on a typical job. Anything outside it gets called out in the bid.

  • Shiplap accent walls and full rooms
  • Tongue-and-groove ceilings and porch lids
  • Nickel-gap and custom reveal spacing
  • Vertical, horizontal, and herringbone layouts
  • Blind-nailed and face-nailed as the look requires
  • Outlet, vent, and trim integration
  • Painted, stained, and clear-coat ready
  • Course layout planned to balance the room

In Detail

What goes into shiplap & t&g.

Shiplap and tongue-and-groove take more planning than they look like they should. It comes down to even reveals and landing a full board where the eye goes. Where we run it:

Accent walls

Shiplap and plank accent walls that add architecture to a flat wall. (See accent walls that add value.)

Ceilings & porch lids

Tongue-and-groove ceilings and exterior porch lids, where a crisp, uniform reveal overhead pays off most.

Shiplap, nickel-gap & tongue-and-groove

We steer the right profile to the job, since they read and install differently. (See shiplap vs. nickel-gap vs. T&G.)

Why it matters to your schedule

Uneven gaps and a thin sliver board jammed in the last corner are the two things that make this work look off. We measure the wall and plan the courses first, so the reveals stay even and the last board is a full one.

Questions

Shiplap & T&G questions, answered.

Shiplap boards overlap with a small reveal; nickel-gap is a shiplap milled with a built-in nickel-width spacer for a tighter, dead-even gap; tongue-and-groove interlocks edge-to-edge. They read differently, and we'll steer the right one to the wall or ceiling.
