Crown, base, and casing done the way finish work is supposed to go

Trim is where a house starts looking finished. On our crown molding and trim installs we cope every inside corner instead of mitering it, so the joint holds tight when the seasons swing the framing around; a mitered inside corner opens up the first humid summer, and a coped one stays closed. Outside corners get mitered and glued so the return reads as one continuous piece, and long walls get scarfed on a bevel over a stud so the seam disappears. Casing gets reveal-set consistent around every opening. It runs slower than caulk-and-go, and it's the part most crews skip.

Oak Ridge houses don't come square

The Secret City was built fast. A lot of Oak Ridge's original mid-century stock, the flat-top Cemesto "alphabet" houses and the early Turnpike neighborhoods around Emory Valley, has walls that wandered decades ago, with settled plaster and corners that are anything but 90 degrees. We scribe to those conditions instead of fighting them: we rip and scribe base and crown to follow the real wall rather than leaving a shadow gap and burying it in caulk, and we set the reveal off the actual opening, not off a nominal number. On the newer custom builds and lake-side homes going up toward Melton Hill and out through Anderson County, the framing is truer, but the finish standard the ORNL and Y-12 crowd expects is higher: clean returns, dead-flat scarf joints, and crown that carries the eye around the room. We handle both to the wall in front of us.
