Inside corners get coped. A back-cut cope tucks tight and stays tight when the framing moves through a Tennessee humidity swing, where a 45 on 45 opens a hairline gap by spring. Outside corners get mitered at 45 and glued so the return reads as one continuous piece. Long walls, common in the open floor plans going up around Morristown, get a scarf joint cut on a bevel and landed over a stud, so a run of crown never shows a butt seam. And because almost no wall in a real house is dead straight or plumb, we scribe to what's actually there: base scribed down to an out-of-level floor, casing held off drywall that bows at the corner bead.
