Trim and millwork installation for a Knoxville build
Trim and millwork installation is usually a whole-package search: crown, baseboard, door and window casing, and the built-up work that ties a Knoxville build together. That's the heart of what we do. Dunn Trim Co. runs it install-only, falling in behind your moulding and trim spec to make it real — a painted colonial base through a Hardin Valley production home, or a stacked, built-up cornice in a West Knox custom. We install what's specified; we don't design the package or sell the material. If the millwork is commercial — casework, paneling, and trim on an office or medical fit-out — that runs through our commercial trim and millwork side.
The craft: coped, mitered, scarfed, scribed
Inside corners get coped. A back-cut cope tucks tight and stays tight when the framing moves through a Knoxville humidity swing, where a 45 on 45 opens a hairline gap by spring. Outside corners get mitered at 45 and glued so the return reads as one continuous piece. Long walls, common in the open floor plans going up around West Knox, get a scarf joint cut on a bevel and landed over a stud, so a run of crown never shows a butt seam. And because almost no wall in a real house is dead straight, we scribe to what's actually there: base scribed down to a floor that fell off toward an exterior wall, casing held to drywall that bows at the corner bead. It runs slower than nailing and caulking.
Built for Knoxville's houses, neighborhood by neighborhood
Knoxville's stock asks for different things in different neighborhoods, and we set the story off the house we find. The West Knox and Hardin Valley customs off the Farragut corridor run to taller, layered crown and cleaner reveals that match the scale of a great room. The Sequoyah Hills and Bearden remodels come with settled floors and out-of-square rooms, so we scribe casing and base to what's there and match new profiles into the existing trim where a room is only getting partly reworked. Downtown and Old North Knoxville renovations bring plaster and original profiles that a factory-straight modern casing fights. Our field note on crown profiles and when to use them walks through matching profile scale to ceiling height.
Built for builders, quoted per package
Most of our Knoxville work is B2B: general contractors and custom builders who want a trim sub that shows up clean, protects finished floors, and closes out a punch list, plus the cabinet shops and interior designers speccing millwork across Knox County. As a planning number, crown typically runs about $5–12 per linear foot installed and baseboard about $3–8 per linear foot, driven by profile, build-up, and paint-grade versus stain-grade; layered built-up work sits at the top. We give a firm per-project number once we've seen the plans or walked the site. Knoxville is our home base, so there's no travel premium padded into the number.
