Outside corners get mitered and glued so the return reads as one continuous piece. Long walls, common in these open Farragut floor plans, get a scarf joint cut on a bevel and landed over a stud, so a run of crown never shows a butt seam. And because almost no wall in a real house is dead straight or plumb, we scribe to what's actually there: base scribed down to an out-of-level floor, casing held off drywall that bows at the corner bead. It takes longer than nailing and caulking, and most crews skip it.
