Kitchen cabinet installation set to the floor
A cabinet run is only as straight as the day it gets set. On the drawing every base is 34-1/2 inches and every wall is plumb; in a real Knoxville house neither holds. Dunn Trim Co. sets cabinetry as the install sub across Knox County — kitchens, vanities, islands, and pantries set flat and ready for counters. We install the pre-built boxes your builder, cabinet shop, or homeowner supplies. We don't design the layout and we don't sell the cabinets; we make what's specified hang true. Most of our Knoxville cabinet work comes through general contractors and custom builders who want the package run as one line on the schedule, and through cabinet shops that build a good box but sub out the install.
Set off the floor's high point, scribed to the wall
Setting a run right starts at the floor. We shoot the whole run for its high point and set every cabinet off that line, shimming down to it so the countertop templates flat and the toe-kick reads level. Uppers hang to a snapped level line, so a long wall carries its crown straight end to end. Fillers and finished end panels get scribed to the wall, because the walls in a real house are never quite square, and a filler cut straight leaves a gap a client finds with one look down the cabinet line. From there we fasten into the studs, not just the drywall, and draw the boxes tight and coplanar so the face frames form one flat plane for the counter fabricator. Last comes the six-way hinge and slide adjustment down the whole run: every door reveal even, every drawer face aligned.
Builder-, shop-, or homeowner-supplied boxes
We set whatever shows up on site, as long as it's a pre-built box: a builder's package, a local cabinet shop's custom work we're installing on their behalf, or a homeowner's delivery. We don't assemble flat-pack; we install finished cabinets. Homeowner-supplied orders get checked against the packing list the day they land, so a missing filler or the wrong panel doesn't stall install day, which is the thinking we lay out in our field note on installing homeowner-supplied cabinets. We install and we don't design, so a homeowner who needs the kitchen laid out first gets routed to a design partner, and the install stays with us. Cabinet shops keep their client and their drawing; we set them plumb, level, and tight to the wall.
Built for the Knoxville market, quoted per kitchen
Knoxville's cabinet work runs the full range: full custom kitchens in the West Knox and Hardin Valley builds, updated kitchens and vanity swaps in the Bearden and Sequoyah Hills homes getting renovated, and clean, repeatable sets in the production subdivisions filling the edges of the county. Older homes near downtown and the university have settled, and a settled house hands you racked openings and floors that fall off toward an exterior wall — those are the conditions scribing and adjustment are for. We coordinate the set day with your countertop fabricator so template happens on time and the punch list doesn't fill up with misaligned doors. Knoxville is our home base, so there's no drive padded into the bid. Cabinet setting is quoted per kitchen after we walk it, since box count, scribe conditions, and site access all move the number.
