Cabinets set to the floor

A cabinet run is only as straight as the day it gets set. On the drawing every base is 34-1/2 inches and every wall is plumb; in a real Dandridge house neither holds. We start by shooting the room for its high point and set the whole run off that line, leveling every base up to it with shims instead of dropping into a low spot that leaves the countertop out of level and the toe-kicks gapped. Uppers hang off a snapped level line and screw into framing, or into solid blocking behind the rock, so the whole bank reads as one plane. Miss that reference and the kitchen tells on you later: a door swings open on its own, a countertop seam works apart over a season. Scribed to Dandridge's lake and in-town walls

Dandridge cabinet work splits between the Douglas Lake customs and the renovation stock in the historic district, and neither one gives you a square corner. On the lake side, drywall bows and framing crowns on a fresh build, and a full-height pantry that looked fine on the shop drawing will fight a wall that's a half-inch out over eight feet. In the old downtown houses, the walls settled a century or more ago and run out of square worse than anything new construction hands you. Both are what scribing is for. We scribe filler strips and finished end panels to the actual wall so the reveal stays tight and even down the run instead of caulked shut. A fridge panel that dies clean into a bowed wall is the part that reads factory-built.

Builder-, homeowner-, or shop-supplied boxes

We set the pre-built boxes that show up on site: a builder's package, a homeowner's delivery, or a local cabinet shop's custom work we're installing on their behalf. We don't supply the cabinets and we don't assemble flat-pack — we set finished boxes true. Homeowner-supplied jobs carry their own quirks, like a missing filler or a box that arrived racked, so we check the delivery against the packing list before a single screw goes in and flag anything that came damaged, which keeps a Dandridge job from stalling mid-run. The finish is in the adjustment

Setting the boxes is only part of it; the rest is the adjustment that makes them read as one continuous piece. Modern soft-close hinges give six-way adjustment and undermount slides give three, and we take the time to dial every door to an even reveal and every drawer front to a consistent gap, top to bottom and side to side, so a twelve-foot run looks like one plane of doors.
